twins' birth certificate(s)

Do twins have separate birth certificates?

If so, does the existence (name?) of a twin appear on both?

they do, and the eldest at least will have the time of birth noted.

no actual xref tho, but seeing a time of birth written in is a good clue that you are seeing one of a multiple birth....

Yes they do have separate birth certificates.

My 2 x Great Grandparents had twins in 1899 in Annan.

The times of each birth are shown.

I didn't know about the older twin.  I only found out my downloading the birthcertificate I knew of, and lo and behold, 5 minutes previously his elder brother had been born.

Quite a surprise.

Thanks, both.

I have my suspicions that two girls listed in the same place and quarter may well be twins and I had hoped I might find out from just one cert, thus saving £7. It seems not  :(

Another clue is that reference numbers will be sequential (always assuming that they were registered at same time).
