Atwood of Ash Kent
« on: Friday 10 August 07 21:05 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find information on the birth date of Samuel Atwood, Reverend of Ash Church 1701 -1735, it's know that he married Jane Hodsoll b 1673 daughter of Edmund Hodsoll b1637 and Elizabeth Stones b 1637 - 1725 as he is mentioned in Elizabeth's will of 1725, but can't find any more information regarding him. Can anyone help with this?

thanks

Hi Ann

He was appointed Preacher at Kingsdown in 1696 and ordained deacon the same year.  In 1697 he was promoted to Priest and was appointed Rector of Aldington in 1898.  He was appointed Rector of Ash in 1701 and died in post in 1735.

Hi Bill
thanks for the info I assume that this is all in the Kent area? Does your source give you his age when this happened as I'm trying to get a birthdate for him?

Hi Ann

Yes, all in Kent, but no, the source does not give any indication of age.  His burial may possibly give his age, or maybe his memorial in the church if it exists.

cheers Bill

have seen the church in ash and there was a palque on the wall but had not linked Atwood into the tree then so didn't take all the details down, looks like I'll have to make a return visit.
Thanks again
