Co. Derry births?-COMPLETED
« on: Saturday 11 August 07 16:13 BST (UK) »
Am hoping to sort out a very tangled family tree but need to confirm or eliminate one of these births:
1883 William Pollock
1885 William James Pollock
1886 William Pollock

Can anyone find me birthdate and place & parents names? Thanks

Hello aghadowey,

If the name William ran in the families of the ones you have listed Griffith's Valuation extracts for Co. Derry show Williams in the following parishes ... Desertoghill, Glebe, Macosquin and Templemore.

Griffith's Valuation is no use as I don't know the name of William Pollock's father or even if he was from Co. Derry.

I don't have townland, birthdates, parents, etc. If I had that information I would have posted it here already. All I have are these three listed in Irish Genealogy index and was hoping someone might have more information to see if I can locate the one I'm looking for.
All I know about the one I'm looking for is that he's supposed to be born in Co. Londonderry arounf those dates, shows up later in Scotland, moves to england and was killed in World War I.

Hi aghadowey

I searched familysearch.org in the hope i would find something as Irish Civil Births on this website stop in the early 1880's

I found the following:
William Pollock b.17 feb 1880 bovevagh, derry. His parents were William Pollock and Margaret Long.
I found the marriage of William Pollock and Margaret Jane Long in 1868 on irish genealogy.
More children appeared for these parents:
Eliza King, Margaret Jane, Matilda and Jemima Long.

I didn't find any more William's in Co. Derry although there was some from Co Antrim. Is it possible that he was older than what you thought as that it a common problem with Irish genealogy!

Hope that helps

Thanks for trying but had already checked IGI (unfortunately not complete for Irish births covering 864-c1880 but not many after early 1880s) and pretty sure that's not the correct family. Think one of the years I listed in 1st post is the William Pollock I'm looking for.
