Jarvis Family (Also Cakland Query)

Hello, I am trying to trace our family tree for my Grandpa who at 93 probably knows all the people I have found by myself. I need help going back a bit further.

From the 1901 census I found the household to be residing at 34 Cavendish St in Hucknall Torkard. The head of the household was Francis (60), his wife Fanny (59) and children William (35), Mary (32), Richard (30) and Frank (25) all single and living at home. There is also detailed another son who at age 2 seems very young to be Francis and Fanny's! His name is Frank Cakland so the different surname and same christian name as another son confuse/ intrigue me.

Anyway, I am trying to find Francis's father and is possible grandfather but have not been able to delve any further back. He was born in Walsal(sic) Staffs in 1841 so may have missed the census of that year. Richard and Frank were born in Darlaston Staffs so they may have lived in the 1870's.

I'm at a loss with Frank Cakland but any help would be gratefully received.

I don't mind doing the work myself I just don't know where best to look and I have been living in Boston, USA since Feb which doesn't help!

Just had a look at the image and initial thoughts are that your Frank age 2 is listed as grandson (the grand bit has been inserted above), and so is probably the son of a married daughter.
Also I'm not sure it's Cakland at all ...could easily be a badly written Oakland. But that's just my opinion

Yep, from the Notts marriage disc....Edward Oakland married Mercy Jarvis at Hucknall Torkard 30/05/1898. She is with the family in 1891 and I will post that census for you in a moment!

Thanks again. It's hard as I've seen the family 3 times now and the eldest daughter appears as Mary, Maryann and Marion. All similar I know but hard if you are searching directly.

Do you know how I could find Francis's parents?

Hiya. I just happened to have some credit on www.1837online.com and there was a Francis Jarvis registered Walsall district Mar 1841 reference 17 (XVII) 260. Given that his age was fairly consistent (he gave it as 29 in 1871) I think this is a good bet for ordering a birth cert.

Or you could ask on the Staffs board if anyone could find him age 9/10 in 1851. I believe there is an index to this census but, as it's not my area of research, I'm not totally sure!

The birth registration is also on FreeBMD which should always be first point of call! Can't believe I missed it the first time I looked
