Funeral for Bridget Rooney.
« on: Monday 13 August 07 14:35 BST (UK) »
I would just like to share this with you all , a few moment's ago while driving home, the traffic was stopped to let the funeral procession of Bridget Rooney, a greatgrandmother, grandmother ,mother  and wife, over 100 car's and walking mourner's followed the procession, white horse's ,  with plume's carried Mrs Rooney to the church, I have never seen anything so moving and dignified, all the mourner's did her credit and she would have been so proud, I never knew this lady, but felt humble to see this show of love.  thankyou for letting me share this with you, Eilleen.

Eileen

I think this happens with all travelling people.  A few years back, in a village near Swindon, there was an old lady who used to be a traveller but lived in a council bungalow.  She was very ill and expected to die within a week or so and  all her descendants turned up to be with her - literally 100s of them.  The neighbours were not too impressed, but at least she knew that she had her family around her and had not been forgotten like some old folk.

Hi Eilleen.. :D

I am so envious of you .... I wish I could have been there to see the procession, I am sure it was quite "lovely"...(can't think of a better word).

Thanks for sharing

i also have been shocked and pleased at how these familys stick together and keep in touch.

i live in quite a rich area(alot of rich townies who move to the country but work in big towns/citys).
there was a man who lived down the road from me who i never knew he was a gypsie/romany untill he died.
i thought i knew him well,i bought a number of cheap cars from him(quite a whealer dealer ;)) spoke to him often
i thought he was like my family(born and bred in the country)he was a lovely normal local.
when his funeral came so did hundreds of gypsies.
i just wish that the whole village was filled with people like him.
