ANSELL - Derby - 1851 Census Lookup
« on: Tuesday 14 August 07 12:34 BST (UK) »
I would like to know if anyone can find this family in the 1851 Census:

Head - Samuel ANSELL, born 1821 in Ware, Hertfordshire
Wife - Louisa ANSELL (m.s. SAMPFORD), born 1815 in Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire
Son - John Francis ANSELL, born 1847 in Derby, Derbyshire
Son - William ANSELL, born 1849 in Derby, Derbyshire

Hoping someone can help...

Best Wishes,

Are you - or me  :D - getting confused with the 1861 Family in Derbyshire, where the wife is an Agnes ?

They have a John F born 1847, Derbyshire  ....  :)

LOL - cant find them either in 1851 !

No, Samuel's first wife was Louisa SAMPFORD, whom he married in 1845 in Ware, Hertfordshire.

After Louisa's death (occurring sometime between 1849 and 1854), Samuel married Agnes WILKINSON in 1854 in Derby, Derbyshire.

This being said, the 1851 census should show Samuel with Louisa...  or at least it should show Samuel and his two sons, John Francis ANSELL and William ANSELL.

ah, OK, thats more clear.

Here he is - alone - in 1851 .... the entry has been scrubbed around and overwritten a bit, but the Occupation would seem to clinch it.

Thanks for all your help...

Yes, I'm assuming the first William died around 1850...
