Newspaper look up please - Kirk Yetholm or Morebattle
« on: Wednesday 15 August 07 17:15 BST (UK) »

Does anyone have access to old newspapers of 1917 for Yetholm or Morebattle.  I would be interested to see if there is anything in the paper for the KIA for James Frater 3rd July 1917or perhaps his entry in a Roll of Honour book for the area.

I have his military info from CWGC and a photo of the two war memorials. Also censuses.  With some areas there were photos of people killed in the war and I was hoping there might be one of James somewhere.

I managed a visit to your lively area a few weeks ago but unfortunately the library closed at 12.30 and I arrived at 12.15.  Bad timing.  I managed to see the MI book for Yetholm but nothing else.

It was mentioned that a lot of records were being set up somewhere but did not get the email address.  Can anyone help with that.

Thanks

Betty

I have no information on James Frater, but there are Records for a "Archibald Frater" born 1892 in Yetholm.. is this  a relation ?  Is so I would be happy to download them for you.

Kind Regards

BeeMack.

Thanks for that BeeMack.

This query was on behalf of someone else who lives in Australia.

I am sure Archibald is connected somewhere.

I look forward to seeing what information you have.

Thanks for your time.

Betty

Hi Betty

It is not a problem at all.  :)

If you send me a PM with your email address I will be happy to email you what I have.

The one thinks is there are 30 pages  on this chap so it may take a while!!!!!  So I wont be able to send it all in one page.. as it will be HUGE !!!   I will break it up into many smaller mails if you wish.

BeeMack

Thanks for getting back to me.

It seems an awful lot of work to scan 30 pages and send.  Can you give me a rough idea what information  there is and where you are extracting it from.

I will be in touch with the person in Australia and they might now take up the thread.  I will let you know what is happening as it would be best to send them the information.

Thanks for your time.

Betty

Betty,

I just checked my records, John Frater and Elizabeth Douglas, children.

James Frater b.1887
John Frater b.1890
Elizabeth Frater b.1892
Archibald Frater b.1892 married 20 Dec 1924 Annie Hunter
James Frater b.1894 - 1917 married 1 Mar 1916 Mary Scott
Andrew Frater b.1897
Robert Frater b.1904
Mary Jane Frater b.1906

So yes I would say  that this Arcibald that was born in 1892 is connected, and also would be the brother of James Frater that was KIA in 1917.

Thank you so much yet again Betty
