i'd like to thank you all very much for your help-very grateful.
it does seem there are not too many cloys in my lineage.
if there are i cant quite connect them ,it looks as though in the census regarding the illegitimate  john - my grandfather
was possibly a son of andy.

Hi all joined due to this subject which is my partner's (Dean) great grandfather and have quite a bit of info.
I had John Cloy as son of William and McCulloch (thanks for posting the baptism record much appreciated).
John came to Australia as follows:
Left Plymouth 22 June 1867 on the Berar aged 19 and arrived  in SA on 17 September 1867, Agricultural Labourer.  Reg No. 9123.  Listed as "Scotch"

His father was noted as William when in married Paulina Kemp on 25 Oct 1869 and his age given as 22

He died 27 Nov 1908 aged 60.

I think his father William married Jessie Davidson 22 Dec 1853.  I have William's death details (28 Oct 1889) which gives has father as Robert and mother as Elizabeth McGuffock.

Have more but need to get off to work
Cloy - Wigtown, Cran - Aberdeen,
Hutchinson - Arkengarthdale, Jameson - Northallerton
