Duff
« on: Thursday 16 August 07 20:18 BST (UK) »
Anyone got any info on an Isobel/Isabella Duff.  Going by the Census she was born in Duthll about 1794.  She lived her adult life in Archiestown, Knockando Moray.  She had two children, Agnes Chapman (18230) and James Robertson (1836) and died in Archiestown in 1877.

Any help would be really welcome.  Elsa

Hi Elsa,
Welcome to Rootschat!  :D
Hopefully we will be able to help you find Isobel/Isabella.  What information do you have about her already?  For example:

Which census returns have you checked?
Did she marry the father of either child?
What does her death certificate say about her and her parents?

We need to be armed with as much info as possible so we can hunt her down.  :)  In the meantime I'll go and have a look for her.

Cheers
Prue

Hi Pru,
So sorry there has been a long delay since I read your note in Roots chat.  Life has been a bit hectic.  I had a bad fall and was out of commission, I had my daughter and grandchildren for a month then the computer started acting up and the rest is laziness!!   To answer your questions.  Isabel/Isabella/Isobel/Isobella did not marry the father of her children.
I have looked at the 1841,51 and 61 cencus and in each said she came from Duthil, Invernessshire.  I have also tried to find the Peter Robertson.  ON my g-g-g-randfather's birth certificate it says he was a shepherd, sometime of Crathie and Duthil.  I did find a birth at Duthil but no way so far, in confirming is is the right one.   I have Dean family imembers in my tree living in Australia
thank you for showing interest in my problem.

Elsa

Thank for your help.  I will keep at it.
