Army camp at East Mersea, Essex
« on: Friday 17 August 07 09:21 BST (UK) »
I believe my grandfather was stationed at ??nn Farm East Mersea Essex Army Camp but I don't know when.  It was certainly before 1926 and was possibly Fenn House Farm.
Anyone know anything about this?
Regards, Abiam

Thanks Old Rowley,
It is a great site but nothing at all to do with the army!  I have sent them an email and hopefully someone will come up with something,

I searched the Essex RO website for 'Fenn 1900-1926' and got a number of hits one of which was in respect of land transaction to do with Earls Colne Grammar School and one Percy Faulconbridge about  Fenn House Farm, Ardleigh in 1909/10.(ERO ref: D/Q 6/36/17)
Ardleigh is inland about 5 miles NE of Colchester  and Mersea Island is at least 10 miles S of Colchester.
None of this of course means that there is/was no such place as Fenn House Farm in Mersea.
Maybe you or someone else knows a link between those parties and Ardleigh and Mersea.
I hope this helps in some way.

Clincher,
Thanks for looking for me.  I have posted the Post card (I hope) so that people can see the address.  As you will see it could be Fenn on the other hand it could be completely different!
I have sent an email to a museum in the area maybe they can help,
Regards, Abiam

If you log on to http://www.streetmap.co.uk
and enter 'East Mersea' in the search box
and put  . in 'the GB place circle
you'll get a nice map with Fen Farm shown on it.
There's a fairly big caravan site there now.
