Hi BeeMack,

Welcome to Rootschat  :)

I can't access the images in the Scottish 1891 census, but the details in the index are:  1891 roll:CSSCT1891_384 parish Hawick ED:18 loine:11 Household Schedule No:91
Holland House, Hawick
GRAHAM:
John 59 head  Publican      b.Hawick
Hellen 59 wife    "  wife             "
Gorge 21 son  Baker                  "
Mary 19  dau   General Servant  "
Agnes 17 dau  Dressmaker        "
Jessie 15 dau  Milliner                "

Were you actually wanting to find Thomas, or just the household occupants?  If Thomas, was he born Hawick, what date, and if he was married by 1891, his wife's name?

Jean, Barbara

Thank you both for your help

I was trying to find out about the family as John Graham is my Great Great Grandfather !!  He was a publican and owned "Holland House" in Hawick.

The reason I was looking for Thomas was that Thomas left at some point to join the Royal Highlanders (Black Watch) were he served for 25 years.  He had 3 sons, James Haldane, John and Thomas who all served in the Great War in the 1st Btn Black Watch.

The 1901 census shows them living at the Hussars Barracks in Perth.    I was trying to figure out at what point did Thomas leave Hawick aswell so your information has been invaluable to me on both fronts... thank you again !!!!!!!!!!!!

I also know his son Walter emigrated to Philadelphia.  Your information has also helped me with this too !!!!

John Graham of Holand House Hawick was my Great Great Grandfather. One of his sons, I can't remember name, trained as a coach painter and moved to Dublin with his wife.  They had 3 daughters, the youngest Ellizabeth 7/07/ 1900- July 1986, married Michael Byrne and they had 13 children.  The eldest son Patrick was my father.  My aunt has a file on the family history. There were several Graham brothers in the Blackwatch Royal Highlanders over 2 generations. Three of them went to WW1 and only 1 survived. Names keep repeating over the generations.  I think Thomas was one of the 15 siblings which included the coach painter who came to Dublin. I'll get back when I have a chance to read the file again.  What is you connection to Thomas ?

Dear Bee and Anne,

I am also related to John Graham (publican of Holland House) via Thomas Graham (Black Watch pre-1885) and John M Graham (Black Watch circa. WW1).

I've recently bene to Hawick and gathered a lot of information if you are interested.

I'm looking for service records for Thomas Graham (1862-1923) as there is a record of him being an Inn Keeper in Berwick-upon-Tweed and I'm not entirely sure how he could have been a soldier and inn-keeper at the same time! But maybe that is possible...?

Please get in touch.

M

BeeMack found this in Wellogate details. James Haldane had a few children but one Isablle married your Thomas.
sending him an acco1.1ntfor the interviews, charging 7/6 oo.ch. This brought in a frightened. individual, to whom Mr Pur -dom had to explain the preciousness of 1.Jiistime. James, . senr., he.cl several other daughters . Agnes m. John Davis, butcher (see West Border IL, 2); Isal:>ella m. Thomas Gr.ahiam, ,son of John Graham, Holland House; Lizzie m. Peter !Rut

It might not help but maybe it will.
