George Davies b. 1910 Poss. Rhymney, MON
« on: Tuesday 21 August 07 20:47 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Having a bit of trouble getting started on this particularly knotty branch of my family tree...

My grandfather, George Davies was born on 16 Feb 1910. His father's name was also George Davies. Family legend has it that he was born in Rhymney, but can't find a suitable birth on the indexes. My father remembers an uncle John, and Aunts Harriet and Mari, but I don't know any dates of birth and there's always the possibility that he's got confused!

George married Morfydd Rees on 4 Aug 1934, the certificate is where I got the fathers name from. His address before marriage is Lady Tyler Terrace, Rhymney.

Can't work out where to go from here ... is my only option to wait til 2012 for the 1911 census??

Thanks for any help anyone can give me!

Welcome to Rootschat!   :D

How sure are you about the year of birth? There's a good match a year later
George Davies march qtr 1911 Bedwelty vol 11a pg 130.

You could ask the local office to look for you and use the father's name as a check
The Register Office
The Grove
Church Street
Tredegar
NP22 3DS
01495 722305

registrarsatblaenau-gwent.gov.uk
(replace at with @)

Another possibility is that his parents weren't married before the birth so that he was registered with his mother's maiden name - there are 12 Georges showing up for march qtr 1910 in Bedwelty.

1911 census should be available before 2012. There are posts on the boards about it.
