James Preston (Marriage) Completed.
« on: Thursday 23 August 07 19:52 BST (UK) »
I am looking for proof of a marriage between James Preston, c1803, Leicester, and Mary, possible Davis,c1801, Monks Kirby, Warwickshire, about 1825. Details from census. I have found one 07/09/1823 at Leire(Leicester??). Please can anyone confirm these details, especially from a sight of banns/marriage certificate with names of witnesses etc. Many Thanks MIK.

Many Thanks Mike, all info greatly received. Maybe you can sort out another one for me. William Malkin married Susanna ??? about 1814+/- 3years. He died 1838, 1851 census listed Susanna as from Smeeton, but their married life was in St. Mary, Leicester. A very long shot but I have tried all I can think of via the internet. Once again Many Thanks for your reply. MIK.

Greeting’s Again…..MJR

With reference to :~ “ With consent of friends “

Here is the results of the Liberians at the records Office :~

Occasionally, if the Bride or Groom was patently under age…..
but had had no surviving parents, then the specific consent of a Guardian would be sought…..if there was no Guardian as such
( because the person was poor or an Orphan) then the general approbation of the Parish Overseers, and of the friends of the couple was deemed sufficient……
All the Vicar or Officiating Minister had to know was that,
there was no objections to this marriage.

Or….. if the Parish Minister was new to the job and did  not have the services of a Parish Clark who usually makes out the Registers.
He might think this was the usual entry in the Registers for this Parish.
This is evident if... “ With the consent of friends”
appears several times within the registers.

I hope this clears up what was an unusual entry in the Parish Registers.

MIKE.

Many Thanks. Mary Davis was born in Monks Kirby, Warwickshire in 1801, so she was not under age, but maybe there were no parents there. This is one I was not too sure about, as she appears in 1881 as grandmother, but is the mother of the wife, possibly interpretation of meaning. Addresses and names fit the wedding certificate of her daughter Eliza, but I cannot find her birth/ christening, my guess is she had two names and used Eliza, I believe she had a sister named Elizabeth also a second name as i cannot find her. I will close this one, if you come across anything else with this family please contact me. Once again Many Thanks MIK.
