Denbighshire directory
« on: Saturday 25 August 07 16:13 BST (UK) »
Does anyone have access to a directory for Denbighshire to cover the year 1901? I am interested in Llandrillo Yn Rhos near Colwyn Bay where Samuel Clucas Ward is recorded in the 1901 census as an electrician. Prior to that he was involved with his father in boat building in North Wales. Any information would be much appreciated.

Hi Alex

Have you tried looking on Historical Directories Online?

http://www.historicaldirectories.org

If you can't find anything there I have some directories on disc, unfortunatly they're at home and as I'm on my jollies I'll not be able to access it untill the begining of September but I'll happily look for you.

Thank you, Carole, for your response. Yes, I have tried that site without success so far. I should be very grateful if you would look at your disc on directories when you return from whatever you mean you are on at present.

Hi Both

To avoid a bit of work for Carole, I tried a while ago and Denbighshire/North Wales doesn't seem to be on., except for a general Wales one in 1878 and no Ward in that  :(

i know that Clwyd FHS have published some 1818-1936 Directories on CD:

Hi Alex  :)

I think I might buy the CD in the next few weeks. For circa £20 it looks a very worthwhile resource.

Hi Alex

I've had a look on the disc, the only relevent directories are

1889, 1895 and 1913

there are no others for the area around 1901. Unfortuantey I haven't been able to find any mention of your Samual Ward.

These directories were not very definitive and seem to just mention the more well-off private residents and farmers.

Sorry i don't have better news for you.
