Tiplady
« on: Sunday 26 August 07 12:34 BST (UK) »
My ancestors came from a travelling community. Their surname was Tiplady.
Can anyone help me find information about the community that they travelled with.

They originated in the south of England around Luton/Watford area about the 1850's/1890's, and settled in Seaton Crew, just south of Hartlepool in the late 1930's

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,

Paul Johnson

Funnily enough, I have Tiplady in my line - Anne Tiplady married George Paige at Billingham in County Durham in 1721 much closer to Hartlepool than Luton!

.... and as I went to school in 1940-50's and knew a couple of Tiplady boys they were also in the East Riding, Yorkshire at least from 1837.

Here's the Yorkshire freebmd site: http://www.yorkshirebmd.info/

Maybe they were following the building of railway lines, or moving along the cattle/sheep droving trails for some reason.

Good luck,
Rena
