George Braybrook - Folksworth/Broughton
« on: Monday 27 August 07 02:33 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find information about the parents and possible siblings of George Braybrook, born 1825 in Folksworth.  I believe his father's name was Robert and he may have had a sister called Lydia but other than that I don't know about his ancestry.  I can't find him in any census earlier than 1861 (when he was already on his third marriage) when he was living in Broughton.  I believe he was in Australia/New Zealand around 1851 which would explain that absence.  Is anyone able to provide any information that would/could help?  Thanks in advance ...

Hi hclar1

Folksworth was a small parish - in 1851 the population was 206.

This could be George's parents  in 1861?

1861: Folksworth, Huntingdonshire
Ref: RG9/ Piece 964 Folio: 35/ Pg2
Address: (one STreet Only)
Head: Robert BRAYBROOK 75, Ag Lab, b Caston** Huntingdonshire
Wife: Mary BRAYBROOK 61, b Morborne, Huntingdonshire
Son: Robert BRAYBROOK 19, unm, Ag Lab , b Folksworth

** The enumerator seems to have added a note, "query Kelston" or "query Keyston". I thinks this means the enumerator was unsure if "Caston" was correct, and perhaps was a phonetic rendering of "Keyston" which is in Huntingdonshire. Apparently "Keston" was also a form of the name.

Have found Robert & Mary in 1851 too, Will post it up in a mo,

Cheers

I can't find anything for Folksworth 1841.
Not the BRAYBROOK family, nor the GEE and SANSON families which were all on the same page as them in 1851, and with ages and POB  to indicate they should have been in Folksworth 1841  ???

Apparenty though there is a 1841 Census available for Folksworth  as described on Genuki, so you may have to source it via CD or something.

May be of use?

Robert BRAYBROOK died 1868 per FREEBMD. Mary not until 1878 - she is still in Folksworth
1871: Folsworth Huntingdonshire
Ref: RG10/ Piece 1514/ Folio 38 / Pg2
Head: Mary BRAYBROOK 71, widow, Pauper, b Morbourn
She is apparently living alone.

Your George:
Assume he is the one married Mary BEARD 1854 ST Ives RD , and in 1861 they are in Broughton (with Mary's BEARD brother in the house). Regarding the eldest child in that house - obviously born (to a prior wife?)  before the marriage to Mary: George BRAYBROOK age 9, b Broughton

Is he the one, who's birth is registered Jun Qtr 1851 St Ives - as George BRAYBROOK?

Thanks again, Ambly.  Yes, George married Mary Beard, his third wife!  The couple enjoyed 57 years together ...

The only marriage of a Robert Braybrook on Hunts Marriage Index in the right time frame was in 1829 at Folksworth to Mary Gray, both otp. This ties in with the ages of the children in 1841.
