Rosser Edwards of Tredegar

I've got a photo sent to me by a Canadian  cousin of the grave of this man, from Barkerville Cemetery in BC Canada.   She noticed the name of Monmouthshire, and wondered if I knew of him !


Here it is ...  (I'd be interested to know if he 'belongs' to anyone ... I might be going back to Barkerville next year ... and can tell you about it, as I also have an ancestor there !)

Its a strong possibility Ricky ... was he still in UK in '51 and '61 ?   Barkerville is a gold rush town ... and many miners from Cornwall and Wales made (and lost !) their fortunes there.  Its a 'heritage' site now in the summer months; they can get 30 ft. (yes, 30 foot) of snow in the winter ... and those miners stuck it out on their claims !

Dont know if these have anything to do with the chap, but there is a family tree with a

Rosser Edwards 1789 Clytha Parish Monmouthshire who maried a  Margaret Edwards 1810 Clytha Parish

Where's the family tree please Ricky ?


If he's not on the '51 or '61, I guess he was on his way out west by then !   Many of the gold hunters went first to the States, and then trekked north to British Columbia in the 1860's.

On ancestry, but it dont link Rosser Edwards to the other Rosser Edwards and Margaret, just seemed strange that they were the only two mentiond in Monmouthshire with the name Rosser Edwards

He obviously found something, if not gold. Worth over $3500 (and called John Rosser Edwards).
