Any ideas?
« on: Wednesday 29 August 07 00:17 BST (UK) »
Hi, I have the death certificate of Penelope Bayley who died in October 1850 and the cause of death was described as"disease of the brain 8 years". Any ideas as to what this disease might have been? Jayson.

Jayson,

I have one of these too.  Died in 1847 aged 41 - "disease of the brain".  As well as those already mentioned, it could be a brain tumour, or mental illness.  I honestly don't think there is any way of finding out - I wish there was!!!  :( :( :(

Hi Marie

Yes it's really frustrating not to be able to say what the actual cause of death was :( Your suggestions - brain tumour and mental illness are certainly strong possibilities  ;)

Mental illness is certainly a possiblity but brain tumour lasting 8 years is not as likely although one never knows.
