From Ireland to UK
« on: Wednesday 29 August 07 19:19 BST (UK) »
Hi there,
Does anybody know if there are records of Irish people leaving Ireland bound for UK around 1750-1800.  The surname is EMBURY (not the Imbergers that went to USA/Canada).  I really want to know if any Emburys settled in England and eventually ended up in Clerkenwell London.  I really would appreciate any help, please.
Val
Embury ( London, Bibury) Hamlin (Bibury), Goullee (North London), Rolph (London, Walthamstow), Wheeler (London)

All of Ireland was part of the U.K. so there was no need for passenger lists to be kept. Even in the 1970s when travelling between Holyhead (Wales) and Dun Laoghaire (Ireland) there was no border control.
If you are trying to track a fairly unusual surname like Embury try looking at English census records for any that list birthplace as Ireland and go from there.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Hello Val,

Embury was the surname of one of the Palatine families who arrived in Ireland in the early eighteenth century. There was a Palatine settlement at Rathkeale, Co. Limerick.

There's a query for Embury of Clerkenwell on Genforum
