William Andrews and Charlotte Harris or Walker
« on: Saturday 01 September 07 03:06 BST (UK) »
I would like to know if I do have the right William Andrews that married a Charlotte Harris or Walker as I have her in both surnames.
Here is what I have
William Andrews
born June 21, 1795 St Paul, Canterbury, Kent, England
His parents are Richard Andrews and Elizabeth.
married
Charlotte Walker or Harris
I have a Charlotte Boyce Harris born February 15, 1801 Chatham, Kent, England. Her parents are Henry Boyce Harris and Ann.
William and Charlotte did live on the island of St Helena abt 1820s since their first 4 children were born there. Their son Thomas is my direct line and he is born August 30, 1831 St Helena
Any and all info would be greatly appreciated

Hi Julie

It would help a great deal if we knew the source of your information.  I've been looking through some of your other posts and see mention of a marriage certificate for William & Charlotte's son, Thomas - does that give his parents names?

Where have you found mention of the name WALKER and where have you found mention of the name HARRIS?

Do you have a copy of the 1851 census to give Charlotte's age/birthplace?

Where does your knowledge that William ANDREWS was born 1795 Canterbury and served in the artillery come from?

It's easier for us to attempt to work backwards rather than forwards ;)

On William and Charlotte's son Thomas marriage cert. it states his parents as being Wiliamd Andrews and Charlotte Harris.
I found on rootsweb a William and Charlotte (Walker) with the same Thomas born August 30, 1830 St Helena.
For found ding William Andrews in Kent, England. I only looked through familysearch.org for a William born 1795 and saw one born June 21, 1795 St Paul, Canterbury, Kent, England since I saw on rootsweb William's wife Charlotte was born abt 1801 chatham, Kent, England. I couldn't find a Charlotte Walker in Chatham but did find on familysearch.rog a Charlotte Boyce HArris born February 15, 1801 Chatham.
Now I am trying to piee together these two individuals to see if they are not my Thomas ANdrews' parents

Ok, first things first!  Forget all about what you see on Rootsweb and familysearch for the time being - just concentrate on information that you know for sure ie. (from one of your other posts assuming this is correct):

HO.107/844/1 folio 16 page 24
living at Golden Square, Berwick upon Tweed, Northumberland

Wm Andrews/45/shoemaker/not born in county
Charlotte Andrews/40/not born in county
Charlotte Andrews/15/born in foreign parts
Francis Andrews/15/born in foreign parts
Alexander Andrews/14/born in foreign parts
Thomas Andrews/8/born in foreign parts
John Andrews/4/not born in county

Have you found this family in the 1851 census - to give the birthplaces for Charlotte and son John?  If not, I would advise that is your next step.

The problem with Kent records on familysearch is that there aren't that many of them - many, many parishes have no records on there.

I see (from the above 1841 entry) that William was a shoemaker.  Where does your information that he was in the army come from (regiment etc.) and when?

It said it on a webiste i have found a while back and i have written down William andrews and Charlotte walker on the search engine yahoo but now can't seem to find it again.
Never did find the family in 1851 since I know Charlotte would have been a widow as William died Dec 23, 1842 Berwick, Northumberland, England and charlotte died May 28, 1854 Berwick, Northumberland, England.
The William Andrews being in the Artillery is the only match I could find since I believe it was the 1881 census shows their son Thomas born St Helena. I did write to for the birth paper for Thomas but all they had was just his name and date as they never realy had records of born british on the island.

Hi Julie

To start with, I would suggest posting a lookup request for the family in the 1851 census on the relevant board (giving all the information from 1841 and birthplaces which you know about)

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/board,247.0.html

You could also try posting on the armed forces board to see if anybody knows anything about any military being in St Helena c1831

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/board,300.0.html

I think I've now found the site you mentioned http://web.ukonline.co.uk/dave.andrews/history/dandrews.wbg/wga6.html#I716 and it would appear that somebody has done quite a bit of research into the family already.  You could try contacting the owner of the site http://web.ukonline.co.uk/dave.andrews/history/famtree.html

That is the website I did have. The problem is William and Charlotte's John born abt 1837 Hull, Yorkshire did not marry to Emily Young in New Zealand and had all those children. As I saw the parents for that John JOhn to be William andrews and Rebeka Wine's son instead if I wasn't mistaken. May have spelled Rebeka's name wrong can't remember which way I had founf it before.
Instead I found John to be married to Mary born abt 1838 Scotland and had two children. And living in Northumberland Co.  I have found this info on the 1881 census and been in that county since 1861 so he couldn't be in two places at once. The rest of the family so far seems ok it was just John that seemed out of place.I just found the family in 1851 Census. It shows Charlot (as written) born abt 1801 Chatham, Kent, England along with her sons John, Thomas and Robert living in Berwick Upon Tweed, Northumberland.
I did find John and Robert living as boarders in 1861 Northumberland Co with a Bawhill family.
