Thank you Newf. I've had a look at Wikpedia and note it says All Saints.

The 1845 marriage certificate I have before me states:

"Married in the Parish Church according to the rites and ceremonies of the ......Church after banns by me Charles ....."

The gaps are where I can't yet interpret the handwriting.

Any ideas on what would have been written before "Church" would be appreciated.

Cheers from Australia

Elsie

Might the word before church be 'established'?

http://home.clara.net/dixons/Certificates/marriages.htm#COL9

I imagine the word after Charles will be a surname?

According to "Google" All Saints Church is Church of England; so "established" is probably the word you are looking for.

It is C of E - theres a Primary school linked to it nowadays.

So, with apologies for repeating - it will say 'Established'.

You might be able to make out the chaps name in the signature area ?

Newf, Ruskie and Nanny Jan...I can make out the word "Established" now that you have all pointed me in that direction. Terrible script.

Without your help I'd still be puzzling over it.

Thank you all so much for your kind help.

With a smile  :)
