Invite - Gorton Monastery
« on: Monday 03 September 07 14:14 BST (UK) »
Recieved this email from Gorton Monastery if anybody fancies a look.

If any of your chat room contacts want to visit the Monastery next week we are opening  to the public for 4 days from Thursday 6th until Sunday 9th as part of the Heritage Open Days. We are also going to trial our new Friars Pantry Cafe  which will also be open serving delicious food from 10am until 4pm each day.
It would be lovely to welcome anyone who is in the area even though Tony won't be available to do one of his fantastic tours.

Regards
Ken

Hi Ken,
Thanks for posting that. The weekend was a great success but unfortunately i wasn't here for it. I'm now back and would like to suggest a mini-meet at the Monastery as I know you and others have expressed an interest. I would be delighted if you could be my guests for an afternoon.

I think a Saturday afternoon would be best as it would give an opportunity for people in Gtr Manchester and perhaps further afield to join. The tour lasts about an hour and a quarter and covers the architectural, religious and social significance of the Monastery - no doubt this one will take longer as Rootschatters grill me on the accuracy of my 'family' research :D :D

Can i start the ball rolling by suggesting 6th October at 2.00 pm and see what interest there is. (A back up date would be 20th October)

Best wishes
Tony

I do remember,  with great affection,  going to St. Joseph's,  for the funeral of one of my grammar school teachers, prob. 1948/50.  I cannot express my pleasure that the wonderful building and artefacts have been saved.  My thanks,  as a simple indvidual, for  the hard work put in,  to preserve this  masterpiece for the people of Greater Manchester.

Hi Migky,
Would be delighted to see you both again. There is at least one other person at the moment so I am going to go ahead with the 6th, but quite happy to arrange another date for those who might want to come later.

Hi Annie and Cathaldus, thanks for those thoughts, I do hope you can get here one day.

Cheers
Tony

Hi Tony
I haven't looked at the boards recently so I hadn't noticed this.  I am very interested in taking a tour of the monastry so if another  date is available, I am usually very flexible (but can't make the 6th October)

Thanks Migs -  I am already aware of the Victoria baths -- I too leanrt to swim there as a child.  I have been on one of the guided tours of the place and also recommend it.  Did you watch Life on Mars?  A lot of the filming was done on location there
