Thanks...i found the 1881 Census record, i see his son George there as well with a sister in law and children (including a son Albert...Ellen had one too LOL), his wife must have died pretty young.

Thanks Cazay.....now i am entrigued as to who this William Edge g/son is....after doing a lookup on the IGI i found:

WILLIAM BEASLEY EDGE
Christening:      27 JAN 1867      Saint Mark, Birmingham, Warwick, England
Parents:
     Father:     THOMAS EDGE
     Mother:     MARY ANN

Perhaps George's wife Mary Ann had been previously married and had a daughter Mary Ann ?

There was also a -

WILLIAM EDGE
Christening:     12 AUG 1868      Saint Peter Dale End, Birmingham, Warwick, England

Parents:
     Father:     THOMAS EDGE
     Mother:     ANN

It certainly gets the mind ticking......

if its not too much bother, does George appear on either the 1891 or 1901 census ?

I can't find George Little in 1891 or 1901 and there is a death in West Bromwich (reg area for Wednesbury) in 1884, vol. 6b, p515 which could be his death. Age is 68.........looks like he hasn't aged much since 1881 if it is him.

The baptisms you found for the grandson, William do not seem to be the right ones.  There are four William Edges in the 1871 census born Birmingham.

1. parents Thomas and Annie (William Arthur Edge) in Birmingham
2. parents Thomas and Mary A (William B Edge) in Birmingham
3. parents Thomas and Mary (William Thatcher Edge) in Aston W,shire

and then 4. is William, George's grandson in Staffordshire

Nothing would surprise me if it were the correct George in 1884, as he
seems to age erratically from census to census.....
