i'm trying to find the parents of charles thorpe born abt 1823 eastbourne/eastdean sussex.

Hi Paula
I had a quick look at the Sussex Marriage Index and could not see an immediate candidate.  Hardly any in that area.  However as the marriage would be in the bride's parish it may be further afield.   Which church registers have you searched for a baptism?   It is not on the IGI but then many registers are not.

she was born abt 1823 westdean sussex.

Hi,
have found his second marriage on family search.org
his father is listed as James Thorpe.
have looked at the census's and have come across a James and Harriett Thorpe of the right age in eastdean.
can't find any birth records of any of them.

There is a marriage on the SMI for James Thorpe to Harriet Henty  13 Feb 1813 in Jevington.    Not too far from Eastbourne.  What were the birth places on the census that you found?

Hi Andrea,
that must be them, harriet's birth place was jevington
and they was both born 1794 so that would make them 19 when they got married.
