I have access to an index - is it Dumfries you are looking for?  There are 3 Mary Douglas ages 20, 30, & 5

The 5 year old is at McLachlan's Close enum 11 page 31

The other Douglas's there are...

Henrietta age 3
John age 7
Mary age 30
Mary age 5

All are said to be born in Scotland (therefore not Dumfriesshire) and I cant find a father named Douglas - the index is on paper therefore I can't search for any non Douglas people at this address.

For completeness the 20 year old Mary is in the hospital as a patient.

All the best,
Pam

Oh my Goodness it is looking good but I would not like to confirm anything until checking the Dumfries census on the film - I will try to do this in the next week - just to see if there is anyone else at the address.

Finger's crossed!

Do you know where the family are in 1851?

http://www.dumgal.gov.uk/services/depts/comres/library/census_search.asp

I ask because there is a Henrietta Douglas of the right age (12) lodging in a house in Balmaclellan she is born at Dalry Kirkcudbright?

Pam
I have tried everything to trace Mary Douglas traveled to Dumfries on the bus to  try to fined her paid for reserch turned up nothing traced every Mary Douglas I could fined  blank again all I found was John Sewell was still singel in 1851 Carlisle and the first son James was born 1853 in Carlisle as was all the children that followed the records office in carlisle said that the marriage registers were illegible for 1851-1853 in carlisle  thats why the marriage may not have been transcribed went on the Scotland's website and went through every Mary Douglas marriage from 1850-55 not a thing again i then discove rd one of grandads brothers sons were born in dumfries in 1886 so I sent off for the cert  only to find no street on it so I tracked back trying to fined Greenbrae loaning on the 1881 to fined out who was living there once again only to fined that that part of the dumfries census was missing
