marriage & death in jersey COMPLETED
« on: Friday 07 September 07 00:33 BST (UK) »
Hi there.

Hope someone will be able to help me.

My grandmother Elizabeth Mary Slater was born in St Helier Jersey 14th July 1869. I am looking to find the marriage of her parents prior to this date.

Details from the birth certificate I have are:-

Mother  Elizabeth Trohear
Father   John Slater, blacksmith
Address  Haimance Place (no number), St. Helier

I can't find the marriage in England. Elizabeth Trohear was living in Birkenhead, Cheshire in 1851, born in 1842/3.

Could you also see if there is a death recorded for John Slater please.
Elizabeth remarried in England in 1872 (pre-July), so he must have died sometime mid-1869 to mid-1872.

Many thanks,
Liza

Hi Suz

Took me a while to find this one.

Searched all the Trohear's with no success. Thought as this was an unusual name it would be easier to find. I then found a John Slater who married St.Helier in the volume Sep 1867 - Feb 1875 on page 20.

On the same page is Elizabeth Frohear !!

Couldn't find a death for John however.

Stewart

Hi Suz & Stewart,

Thanks to you both for your efforts on my behalf, and so quickly! I'll send off for the marriage certificate straight away. Brilliant!

It is not the first time I have found Trohear spelt 'Frohear', the most far out one being 'Trucy'!. The name originates from Cumberland.

The 1871 ref Suz found is correct, except that Elizabeth's sister was really called Esther and her married surname Jarman. These records certainly don't make life easy for the researcher!

I'll look for John Slater's death  in England now 1871-1872. Hopefully the marriage certificate will give me more info about his father to give me a start finding his family.

Thanks again,

Liza
