Since marriage seems to be 1853 it's not surprising Registrar couldn't find it. There are quite a few Protestant churches in Dervock/Ballymoney area. Some of the records for churches in Ballymoney area are on microfilm at Coleraine Library: Armoy Church of Ireland, Armoy Presbyterian, Dervock Presbyterian Church, Dunloy Presbyterian Church, Garryduff Presbyterian Church, Drumreagh Presbyterian Church, Dunaghy Church of Ireland, Killagan Church of Ireland, Kilraughts Reformed Presbyterian Church, Loughguile Church of Ireland, Mosside Presbyterian Church, Rasharkin Presbyterian Church, Toberdoney Presbyterian Church, Toberkeigh Presbyterian Church.

I have sent for birth registration for Mary McCaughan and Elizabeth McCaughan. Hopefully the address information will indicate which church records to check.

Let me know when the information comes and I'll see what I can find here. Will be in Coleraine Library tomorrow but not sure how much time I will have to spend there.

Thanks, they said it would be about a fortnight. Waiting is the difficult part.
Thank you so much for your replies. It means everything to people like myself, trying to find our roots in Ireland.

Did get to Coleraine Library today for a short while (they opened an hour later for staff meeting) and checked baptisms of Dervock Presbyterian Church 1852-1870 but found no McCaghans. Hopefully the certificates will give a clue.

I am beginning to think I am looking in the wrong area. I think I such be searching in Armoy area.
I do know that Robert John McCaughan (son of John McCaughan and Sally Mooney) was living in Armoy about 1887, just before he came to the U.S. . If the family of John McCaughan and Sally Mooney is the correct one, I may have found one of his sisters on a passenger list. It shows a Sarah McCaughan, born about the right time (1870). She was living in Armoy and traveled to Philadelphia 15 Oct 1895. She was going to her sister's. A name and address are given but I can not read it.

Also the following is 1901 Census Armoy
john        mccaughan       head         church of ireland
sarah      mccaughan        wife          church of ireland
anne       mccaughan        daughter   church of ireland
james      mccaughan        grandson   church of ireland
robert       mccaughan        grandson   church of ireland

I think there is a good chance this is the same family.
I must look closer at Armoy.

Is it Ellis Island that you got a Sarah McCaughan listed on? If so, give me the reference and I'll take a look & try to read the address.
Do you have the ages to go with 1901 census?

The Sarah McCaughan on the passenger list came in to port of Philadelphia, not New York. I have subscription to ancestry.com, so I am looking at a scan of a microfilm of the original passenger list.
The name seems to be Mrs. Kutchinson, but the address ? I have tried to find Kutchinson on the 1890 Philadelphia City Directory, but none listed.
The 1901 Census information is from listing of McCaughans for parts Antrim sent to me by a fellow in Antrim. That is all the information given.
I am still very confused about the reason Dervock was given as place of mariage and place of birth.   Could they have been born in or near Armoy or Ballycastle and the District listed as Dervock? Having the information as Dervock does not seem to be very useful?

Was hoping that Sarah would be listed on Ellis Island site. Could the name be Hutchinson instead of Kutchinson? It (Hutchinson) is a common name in this area.
Dervock is probably the Registration District. Armoy is still a possiblity. How does Ballycastle some into it?
