Oh NO!

The death details of Marian Witherington Bell breaks her out of my tree! And she was my connection.   :( :( :(

My connection came from a marriage (I dont have the certificate) 1846 Q4 N Aylesford 5 622 showing Mary Fernie marrying my 2nd gt grandfather Robert Speight b1821 Gravesend.

Thank you all so much for your help. I have some more research to do, some pruning, and a marriage cert to order.  :(

And there's no point in hoping Vernon Bell was her second husband. She was still with her four children in 1871 aged 49. Robert died in 1855 just months before his son George was born leaving her with four children to bring up.

Oh well. :) What can one do with a load of really interesting information about a really interesting man who no longer belongs in my tree?

There is a thin sliver of hope.

Marriage
Q3 1856 FERNIE    Marianne Witherington-St George Hanover Sq-1a-436

If this is her then

a) She is in her forties.  :(
b) She used her maiden name.  >:(
c) He wasn't with her in 1861 or 71. :(
d) They married the year after Robert died :)

I've ordered the North Aylesford marriage. We'll see.

FYI

Here's Mary in:

1861 RG9/54/25/53

William and George are missing and I have never found them. Could they be with Thomas Vernon Bell? I cant find him.

1871 RG10/123/59/13

All four boys are there. Mary is deaf.

OK! Its a bust!  :(

The certificate arrived. Correct Robert Speight but he married Mary Fernie b1819 (I think St Andrew Holborn). Her father is William Fernie.

Cant find them in 1841. :(

Thanks all for your help.

I wonder if you can assist me?
I am researching James Shepherd Smith Stanton (born 1832 in Hackney - death April 1913 in Willesden, Middlesex). I believe he was a sibling of Ann Caney Fernie nee Stanton

Did their father Stephen James Bridges Stanton live at Chase Lodge, formerly Page Street House, Hendon (is this now Chase Lodge Hospital ? any info ?). He was a Mariner and Ship Owner. Did he marry Susannah (Susan) Ridley? and was she their mother ?

James Shepherd Smith Stanton married Sophia Matilda Cox and Mary Cope Campion. He was a Portrait Painter and Photographer.

Any assistance very welcomed

Thes two PCC Wills may help. These were the names as I scanned through.

7 pages - Robert Dryden, probated 31 Mar 1828
Robert Dryden of the New Road, Whitechapel Road, Mdx, gentleman
---my uncle Thomas Dryden
---to my brother George Dryden
---to Sarah Caney and Ann Caney both of New Road, St George's in the East, Mdx
---to Richard Brown of the Coal Exchange, London
---to Stephen Stanton of Ratcliffe Street, Ratcliffe Highway, Mdx, gentleman
---to Robert Clark of Tooting, Surrey, coal factor
---my wife Mary Dryden
---my daughters Mary Ann Dryden & Sarah Caney Dryden

Four and a half page PCC Will of Mary Dryden, probated 12 Nov 1838, of Lady Lake Grove, Mile End, Mdx : part owner of several ships managed by Thomas Dryden and John Dryden of Northumberland.
--- my soninlaw Robert Page, shipbroker of the Stock Exchange
--- my son, Stephen James Bridges Stanton of Hendon, Mdx
--- my daughter Mary Ann, wife of Robert Page
---my daughter Sarah Caney wife of Dr Henry Gough
---to Lydia Stanton of Hoxton
---for my grandson Joseph Henry Ridley Stanton
---for my grandaughters Mary Caney Stanton & Ann Caney Stanton

My interest is exploring this Dryden / Page connection.
