6 Mabel St
« on: Tuesday 11 September 07 11:19 BST (UK) »
An uncle, Harry Corry, emigrated to Australia in 1929.
His address is given as 6 Mabel St., Belfast.
This street is not on any modern map.

Can anyone locate the street for me - it could just be a name change.

1912 there was a Robert Ferguson living at 6 Mabel Street (Parliamentary Division- Belfast South, district- St. Anne's)- Ulster Covenant.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Thank you Aghadowey

I've been that (Covenant) route. People from Mabel St are also shown as being in St.Georges District.

Although my grandmother was a Ferguson, I can find no connection.

If that St.Georges is the one in High St - not far from St.Annes - could Mabel St have been in the Docks area?

I'm hoping that someone has a pre-1929 map of Belfast.

Maurice

Mabel Street was of Utility Street, which is / was of the Donegall Road. Utility St., a few hundred yards passed Sandy Row, on the right going out of town.  That area has been redeveloped, but a lot of the old street names have been reused.

Thank you Dixie,

My Fergusons were from South Armagh and the Newry side of Co.Down - none in Belfast.  Just a coincidence that a Ferguson family lived in Mabel St, although they could be related in a distant way.

I did post my Ferguson quest on (I think) the Armagh topic early this year.
