Resurrecting the BARLOW line (not literally)
« on: Thursday 13 September 07 20:17 BST (UK) »
I'm not sure where to post this so apologies if it's in the wrong place.

I'd appreciate any advice on how to proceed in getting more information on my collateral BARLOW lines.  I have the will of John BARLOW the brother of my 4xggrandmother Esther BARBER nee BARLOW.  John didn't have any children but had inherited the family lands - link to my transcription of his will is here: http://jdcheshire.rootschat.net/wills/barlowjohn1839.html

I have traced the marriages of most of the sisters and their descendants but am interested in trying to find out more about the brother, Peter BARLOW (baptised at Daresbury, Cheshire 16 Jun 1765) and his family.  Peter had a son called Peter who also owned land around Antrobus/Lower Whitley.  He is the main beneficiary of his uncle John's will.  He is named as Rev Peter BARLOW and I have looked at the census and found a possible match:
1851: HO107 2387/23 Page 18
1861: RG9 3717/34 Page 19

Going by date of birth from the census, this Rev Peter BARLOW could be the son of Peter BARLOW (maybe Daresbury 1765!) baptised at St Michael Bassishaw, London, IGI batch P001471 and there are a number of other BARLOW's at the same time, one of them Abigail which was his grandmothers name so I'm quite drawn to this.

Another of John's brothers was in London - James BARLOW, see http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,255459.0.html

So many questions, but where is St Michael Bassishaw?
I can't find Rev Peter in any of the alumni lists or clergymans database, any ideas?
Are there any pre 1837 marriage indexes for Middlesex/London in 1800's that may pinpoint a marriage for Abigail ? or other daughters?
There is a baptism for a James Wilson BARLOW in the same IGI batch in 1808 - I wonder if that might be mother's maiden name.

Sorry it's a bit vague, they're circling in my head at the moment and I can't see the wood for the trees (so to speak!)  ???

Any help or advice appreciated (very much!)

Jean
