Views on uniform (one for Scrimnet!)
« on: Thursday 13 September 07 21:48 BST (UK) »
Mmeber Kenandjulie have asked me to ask you if you can comment on the spur on this photo (I can't see it!)

I'm away for a few days so hopefully they will look in!

Ooooh!! Thanks for the recommendation!  :-[ :)

Now....interesting....

I can see no spurs either....What I can see is "infantry style" puttee wrapping, ie bottom to top...

The other interesting thing is the remnants of a divisional sign on his upper arm...
One more charge and then be dumb,
When the forts of Folly fall,
May the victors when they come
Find my body near the wall.

Hello  Scrimet please look to one inch  to the left of his right foot and you will see a broken spur. . I have had this blown up and there is a silver spur, but i think it is broken. What does this mean?    Does it mean they have disbanded?

I have a  very dim recollection that he told me he rode a bicycle, does that make sense to you?
But on my original photo there is a silver spur to the  left (as you look at the Photocan send the original photo to you , via email. But i do not know how to attach to this site.

Scrimet or do I call You Sir,
I do not know how to attache. a photo to this site. However there is another enigma. I have three
photos of Aaron in uniform

!)_ He is in the uniform the Somerset Light infantry (looks very young).  But i think he is in the uniform of a boy soldier.

I have two photos of him at a later state and I think one of them is as you suggested Glamorgan Yeomanry Which is the one with the broken spur.
By the way; If that is you in the officers uniform, you fooled me
. After serving 8 years with RAF, I would certainly have  saluted you.

We have had quite a lengthy discussion on this on a previous semi linked thread... ;)

Right them, to address your points chaps and chappettes... ;) :D

My great uncle was Somerset Light infantry, so i would be keen to see that pic!!

To put a pic up, try www.photobucket.com It's the one I use!!

I really don't think that is a broken spur...I think it is a mark on the original negative plate, maybe even a scratch or crack.

Any NCO's who had "done their time" were invited in again by Kitchener, but at their previous rank, As he has no rank, this is a poser!

He may have done boys service, or have finished his time, or was discharged.

And yes...I still hold the Queens commission! You may salute! Only if you are wearing head dress...No silly Yank affectations here thank you  ::) :P ;D

I'll PM my email...

My Tuppence worth:

Although he looks young, his boots are well broke-in.  His uniform looks like a new issue.  From what is visible to us, the 'broken spur' resembles a mark/crack in the photo.
