Thanks Joe, that is certainly them.

Robert Munro died on 27 Mar. 1886 aged 78 in Portsoy.
Jane Grant died 1 Oct. 1901 aged 81 in Portsoy.

The next problem I have ahead of me is the fact that on both death certificates, the informant didn't know the mothers' names.

Unrelenting.  ;D

Thank for all your help.
Here is a photo of the people you helped me find.

The ones with 'Mother' and 'Father' on their necks are my great grandma Christina Bryson and great granda Robert Connon. Given that the postcard is from Dumfries, they are likely pictured with some of Christina's siblings.

PS. This is a shameless excuse for trying to post a picture.

Edit: Give me a second...I think I know what I did wrong...

Edit: Oh well. I don't know what I did wrong. Sorry.

Hello Windsor - a warm welcome to Rootschat.

I got all excited when I thought I was going to see a photo of Christina & Robert.

Perhaps you could try again - I know it's not easy when you are a new-chum but worth another go.

Good Luck........

I think that's it now.

Here is another one of them in later life:

Thank you Windsor

Enjoyed looking at both photos. I'm sure if you put the older one on the Photo Restorations page they will be able to do great things with it.........

Janet and Agnes were twins.

Three quarters of an hour between them on the 29th May 1889.  Agnes was older than Janet.
James Bryson was a drainer in 1889, so I suppose that's another bit of the puzzle that will hopefully solve the mystery.

Given my vanity, I may at some point investigate into whether my James Bryson was related to James Bryson McLachlan - he was born in Ecclefechan in 1868. Perhaps a cousin or something.

That didn't take long - I am related to James Bryson McLachlan.  :)

My James Bryson and the known socialist James Bryson McLachlan were first cousins. Excellent.

Was interested in this quest because it was Hoddom. If I could add a comment.  Some parts of this area seem to have missing records as I have had trouble with my earlier ancestors there. The other thing is that Ecclefechan had a lot of in-migration. My own ancestors came in from the next parish c1800 because of displacement of small farmers. Ecclefechan grew from very small beginnings during the 19th century, because it provided short lived economic ventures that brought people in (bacon curing, linen manufacture). The tradition continues as nowadays it has a very large council estate attached to the village that has brought people in from the surrounding area. A history of people coming and going makes it a difficult area to study. Yet many people pass by it on the motorway and never see it, it is otherwise so small.
