« on: Friday 14 September 07 03:07 BST (UK) »
My grandmother is middle girl (standing)
The girl sitting is I think her elder sister.
The elder lady seated may poss be Gt Gt Grandmother.
Could the Lady standing behind my Grandmother be my grandmothers
mother

Grandmother was b. 1897
Gt Grandmother was b. 1865
Gt Gt Grandmother was b. 1836
I have very little info other
than census and this pic.

Thanks.

Skippy

Hi Skippy,
at a guess your grandmother looks about 8 years of age, 10 at the most.
If she was 8 then the photo would have been taken about 1905 based on the birthdate you give for her as 1897.

You state that your great grandmother was born in 1865, if the photo was about 1905, she would have been about  40 years of age, it is more likely that the lady seated is your great grandmother.

you state that your gr gr grandmother was born in 1836, she would have been 69 for this photo.  I think the seated lady looks too young to be 69ish.

Did your grandmother have an older sister? born about 1880 as I think this lady, one standing directly behind lady seated,  looks closer to 25 years of age, certainly not 40ish.

Just my thoughts, hope it helps

Morning all... Well deduced Meg! :D
I would go along with your thoughts on the older lady being the gt grandmother.
I would say the young lady standing was a sister or a cousin at the very outside. Maybe a bit younger than 25 more 17-20, she's not all corseted up and her hair is down.

To me the picture suggests three sisters and A.N.Other.  I don't see a resemblance between the seated lady and the girls. The rather plain black dress and scraped back hair make me wonder if the lady is a governess (she also seems to have a mediterranean appearance).  Was the family likely to have employed a governess?

I'm sticking with the mother and 3 daughters theory ;D

Guess we now have to wait on Skippy to tell us if there was an older sister  ;D ;D
If there wasn't, well that will blow the theory right out the window.
