Hi Skippy,
afraid I agree with JC, if the photo was taken circa 1912, then it is more likely that is your grandmother standing at the back, the older girl.

You say that there was another older sister born in 1893, make a bet that she has either died or was married when this photo was taken.
As she would have been about 19/20 then likely to have been married by 1912.

sorry :P

Hi.

(Nice job Mudge.....printed both your's and Smurfs off...
adding both of your restores to my files...thanks a lot.)

Thanks for input China, Margaret, Sheila, JC and lizdb. Thought I
had picked out Grandmother (my sister also picked out the
girl in middle), but we may be both wrong....and it is possibly
Gran standing and older woman is her mother.

Older sister b.1893 married in 1913.
My Gran married in 1917 and d.1993 ...  She was well into her middle age
when I was born.
The 2 younger girls both married in 1925.

Had a bit of a play around and superimposed a much later pic
of Grandmother with opacity increments of 5% just to see If I could
tie down whether Gran is girl at the back or the one in the middle. Lined up the
eyes but had to resize (more so on younger girl).
Its a very good match on standing girl....but its also a pretty good match on girl in
the middle.

Cheers,

Skippy

Aww Skippy, now you are showing off.
That is so clever, brilliant in fact.
I had to readjust my eyes to make sure I was seeing it correctly ;D

By doing it that way it could be either, but I can still more resemblence with the older girl.

Well done.

Hi Margaret,

Not so much showing off as trying to get a comparison.
I was surprised when It worked first time........red falling
down water must work wonders......Prob take days and copious
amounts of vino to achieve the same effect again.

I was surprised how easily the superimposed image fitted
over the top of the girl standing....I would not have guessed her to
be my Grandmother. Equally after resizing over the middle girl who I would
have picked out as Gran, the image similarly fitted.
Nobody left I can ask so looks like I'm going to have to wait to see if
any other rellies emerge from the cobwebs.

Cheers and thanks,

Skippy

Hi Skippy - well that's very clever, seen Glenn do it a long time ago too.

The two girls are incredibly similar, no wonder you thought the younger girl was your gran. Though, I'm still inclined to go with the older one as the aging  transfer is smoother on her. Also taking into account the ages and fashions, the likely year the pic was taken, it all leads to your gran being the older girl.

I have a picture of one of my nans taken in the 20's - I swore blind it wasn't her - only the fact that my grandad has his arm around her convinces me it really IS her  ;D Must have been shortly after they married. I shall have to post it for dating as it has 2 younger children in it that I can't identify who are likely to grandad's younger brothers - he was the eldest of 13!

Hi JC,

Only ever met 3 of the sisters (including my Gran) but they were
very much alike..certainly in their later years when I knew them.

I too saw Glens restoration and ageing to an image and after comments on
my query wondered whether it could reversely done with another pic
of Gran mum gave to me at the same time. Original posting is the only pic thats surfaced
on my Dads side of the family from that era so, the playaround with software and
feedback has been worthwhile as I'm now more than 80% convinced that yourself and
Meg may be right in that my Gran is the older girl.
(The transition on older girl was definately the smoother of the two
but I didn't have to resize/flip the image as I did for the younger girl).

This is another pic mum gave to me with the others. She's definately on the
original. Just have to find which sister she is in the pecking order.

Thanks for your thoughts/help.......more than appreciated.

Cheers,

Skippy.

Now you are confusing us Skippy!  :-\ :-\

For what it's worth, I too think that the older girl in the first photo is your gran. Looking at the superimposed older version, I can see a slight resemblance to the older lady in the photo! Anyone else think that??   :-\ :-\

Judy
Best wishes, Judy :-))

Hi Judy,

Didn't mean to confuse,  I think 'other Sister' pic is the girl sitting
down on original photo I posted...I'm just now not sure which
sister this is..... anymore than I'm 100% sure which girl is my Gran.

Cheers,

Skippy.
