Didn't see the Amell bit. I got to her accidentally via the James Godfrey/Sarah Ancell marriage when I was checking them out in 1851,  and just noticed her with them.

Hi Jan/David

Slightly of the topic.

I have been tracing for a friend the Ans(c)ells of Shillington her relative being Francis
who married Sarah on the 1841 census as being 35/30 respectively.

As that would make Francis early 1800's he may be related to the lineage noted
above.

The family were Church/Non Conformists.

And he wasn't baptised either (at least, not in the established church). I see a pattern emerging here!

Hi David and Sandy

Yes that was how I found her but then later when doing a general search for her for 41 or possibly 61 I couldn't understand why she wasn't showing in 51 either.

I'm sure Francis is related somehow and as his baptism isn't showing may be another possible child of William and Sarah.

This Church/non-conformism seems to be a pattern on both sides of my mum's family, adding to the confusion. Still at least they are all in a relatively small area of Beds/Herts unlike my dad's side who are all over the country.

Hello Jan

The marriage on 10 Oct 1797 was in the Higham Gobion PR trancript, stating John Ansell of Shillington  to  Mary Furr of Higham.

On same day (but not necessarily at same time !) was marriage of Timothy Bottoms of Shillington to Rebecca Atwood of Higham.

Hi Jan

I did take a few photo's that I could find of graves from the Shillington Churchyard
for Ancell's but none are early. :(

I remember nearly falling down the hill as it was so steep trying to get to the graves
LOL.

John
Thanks for checking that marriage. Although it now appears Mary is more likely to be daughter of William and Sarah rather than John and Mary, John and William are likely to be closely related maybe brothers. Unfortunately the extracted entry for William baptised Shillington 16th June 1771 only says father Ansell - not terribly helpful!

Sandy
Shame no early Ancell graves. Do you have a general view of the churchyard?

Hi Jan

The Churchyard surrounds the Church and it is difficult to get an overall view.

Here are a few piccies not sure if it will help.

Here is another view from the Church to the lower new Churchyard on the left if
walking up to the main door.
