Lost Cousins 1841 census
« on: Saturday 15 September 07 12:07 BST (UK) »
Hi
So lost cousins are now offering the facility of posting your 1841 details.  great!!! But I am not finding this easy.  Possibly cos Im thick.  It wants you to put:
Piece: HO107/ ...Book... Folio ...Page...  Or it won't let you post them.  Fair enough but I can't seem to find all that info. I've got hard copies of the 1841 that I printed off when I was subscribed to Ancestry.  Too poor to afford to keep that up for long.  The info on them doesnt seem to cover all I am being asked for.

For instance I am at present trying to enter Thomas James and Family HO107/748/8  I believe that takes care of the piece and book.  Where do I find the folio ?  I think the page is 4.  Is the folio 16 which is marked at the top of the page ?

Regards
Siouxzie

Folio is stamped on every other Page - Page is the pre-printed number on the sheet.

In Ancestry it summarises the full Refn ID in the Source info at the bottom of the 'Search Record' ...
altho sometimes they cant seem to work out Folio and Page - so you have to scroll back and forward to deduce it.

I cant see your chap in 748/8 - was he mistransed ?

You havent reversed a digit have you ?   :D

Thanks for response Newf

I am getting the HO107 /748/ 8 from the side of my print out under reference.  He's Thomas 65 Ag Lab living at Brook House Llantilio Crossenny with wife Eliabeth 50 and 2 suspect kids Joseph age 3 is my 3 x g grandad. Am going to put folio 16 page 4 then and hope its right.

The ones that are getting me really frustrated are all the 1841 look ups that peiople have sent me from various sources over the years, where they didn't add the references.  Who knew those numbers would be so important.  I've got my Robbins ancestors on the 1841 Aynho census Northamptonshire, but no reference so can't post them.  I guess I'll have to pester kind hearted rootschatters.

How do you know about using 1841 census in Lost Cousins? :-\

I've just logged in and all I can see is something about exciting news in September. Is this what it is?

I got an email from them this morning.  If you go into add an ancestor now, it gives you a drop down box and the option to add ancestors on the 1841.

Got so excited at the prospect, am having to be a bit more patient now - this could take some time tracking down the elusive references  :P

Thanks for confirming that for me Newf,
I feel confident to put that in now.

No, not Ellen but she does look interesting, cos Ellen is a name that crops up with my Robbins/Robins.  But it is Edward 71 an Ag lab and family.  I am going to ask on the Northampton board.  Am probably going to have to do that with quite a few.

The Lost Cousins idea, does seem a good one - except for me thus far it has only thrown up two contacts I already had.  The more that post their 1841 ancestors on their surely their must be a chance that some will be connected to me.

Itching to get on with this, but my family seem to need food and laundry done and shopping getting.
