TLC for this one, please?

This is one of my oldest photos - can anything be done to imrpove it?

This is William Routledge and Mary Pemberton - my G-G-Grandparents. I believe the gilr standing to be my G-Grandmother, Mary Jane MEYERS (nee Routledge). We're not sure if the other child is a boy or a girl!

William was a corporal in the Royal Artillery and was posted all over the place and his wife must have travelled with his sometimes because one of the children was born in Bermuda!

I think this might have been taken c.1860's - in Carlisle. He retired back there to his roots, after leaving the Army c.1867, or it could have been taken  on leave in between postings!

Alas, the original has been spirited away to America - it belonged to an aunt who died and her son came over to clear out the house and he took everything back across the pond with him!

I will try and see if he can locate it and scan it again or send it over for me to do.
