Hi people,
I put a request for info on Death at Sea,Watchet Somerset.
I have found info,on my g.grandfather.
It appears it was written about in a book on Watchet,it states he was
Captain William Webber,returning from a trip to Ireland was caught in a storm,the ship went down with all hands.
27th January 1883.
I already knew that he drowned before my grandmother was born,she was born 16th feb 1883.
What a shock to her mother,less than 3 weeks before her baby was due.
There is a little story,stating,that whilst her and her son were at home,waiting for his return,they saw his figure pass by the window,she tolld her son,your father is home,go open the door,but there was no one there.
It was a dark,cold,stormy night and the wind was howling.
This info was most interesting as you can imagine,and also tinged with sadness,but this proves that the story handed down was true,
my grandmother always told the story of her father being drowned,lost at sea,just before she was born.
I thought I would share it with you all.
