Birth and marriage certificates are going to be important.

Annie Middleton was registered Dec quarter 1868 Bridgnorth with no middle name and no mothers maiden name there for illegitimate.

The Annie Middleton who married John Haycox was Annie Ellen Middleton

Did she add her middle name herself?

ADDED
Annie Middleton baptized 20November 1868 base daughter of Annie Middleton at Alveley

Annie's marriage certificate is online on FindMyPast. She was 25, of Turley Green, no father recorded. The entry has "Ellen" squeezed in between Annie & Middleton but she signe as Annie Ellen Marriage 21st Oct 1893. Witnesses William Hay & Fanny Bay/Hay.

Hello,I know this post is years old,but I have just come across it,the life of Annie Ellen haycox born Middleton 15/9/1868 in alveley is very confusingly, ancestry has her parents as James scriven 1832-1906 and Emma parlour 1835-1928,where does the surname Middleton come from?,Annie married John haycox, has 5 children and died in 1942,presumably in alveley, can anyone please confirm all of this, thank you

Whilst I agree with your thoughts re some things recorded on Anc* the 1891 census does record Annie H Middleton as the "adopted daughter" of Jamed Scriven & Emily

Ref 2095 8  10

Thank you all so very much for the fascinating information you have found,I live very near to alveley, where they were married, will call into the church and ask them if they have any additional information on their wedding, perhaps Annie's father may be mentioned by name, the kindest regards for all of your hard work,so much appreciated
