What Happened After?
« on: Wednesday 19 September 07 15:27 BST (UK) »
In the 1881 Census it showed that:

George Trowell 34
Fanny 30
Adelaide 9
Elizabeth 5
Martha 3
Annie 1 and
Harriet Burr 19
Lived at 32 Frederick Place, SittingBourne

I believe that the Elizabeth (above) was my GreatGrandmother as she married William James Kennett in Milton 1899.

My question is how do I find out ( as a new person to Family trees) what happened to her sisters and her father after they moved out of their home.

The 1891 shows that George and Elizabeth had moved out but I cannot find out anything more.

Thanks for your time and patience just reading this lol

Hi Geoff,

A warm welcome to RootsChat!

Have you checked to see if the father, mother or any of the sisters died?

Hi Geoff - Welcome!  :)

Indeed Fannny is recorded as a widow in 1891 ...

welcome indeed !

yes, after 1901 you have to trawl the BMD records, and in the period up to late 1911 / early 1912 you dont have the benefit of seeing Maiden names of mothers or spuses in the Indexes.

Sometimes Ratepayers records and Electoral Rolls can help ..... but little is online, and a visit to a major Library or Record Office is needed.

Hi Jan

I havn't been able to find out any more than I have. The 1891 and 1901 census do not have George Trowell in them. As for the daughters when they changed to married name I am at a loss to find them.
My father has told me that his father lived with relatives at Cockleshell Walk, Sittingbourne.  And I thought if I could find out who they were then it might be clearer about one of their married names.

Thanks
Geoff

Do you have the marriage cert to ascertain your 1881 find is the right Elizabeth?

I see there are 2 Elizabeth Trowells on the 1881 census, one born Bobbing and one born Sittingbourne Milton (sorry). Both living in Sittingbourne

 :)

OK, sorry, I have checked the 1901 census now and the other Elizabeth is still unmarried with her parents so I reckon you must have the right one.

Thanks to all of you.

I had not realised that George had died and he was George Rodney so that answers one question :):). My appreciation for that info Tati and Geoff.

Tati - after asking my father a lot of questions its definately the Elizabeth from Bobbing. At the moment I have no certificates of any kind as I have just started to find out about my family tree (and the pitfalls lol)

Newf and Lizb - thanks I do have that info :):)
