William KIDWELL of Shirwell, N. Devon

A friend has asked me if I can find anything out for her about this man, who was a GG+uncle ..

William Kidwell married a Mary Wood on 26th March, 1783 in Shirwell, N. Devon.

Did William have a brother David, is what she is trying to find out.  (A David witnessed the marriage).

Any info or ideas gratefully received.

Lessee to do suit at Shirwill manor court

David Kidwell thatcher in previous post was living at Ford.

David KIDWELL and wife were living with Joseph and Sushanna PUGSLEY in 1841...

here is a marriage:

Susanna KIDWELL to Joseph PUGSLEY
sept q 1838, Barnstaple
vol 10 pg 61

still cannot find a connection to William KIDWELL except for the fact that they may have been born around the same time  circa 1760's

My friend is enthralled ... do you have a ref. for the National Archives thing, so I can look it up myself, as I'm not quite sure what this is all about ...

All I've checked is the IGI so far, and drawn a blank ... so thanks ... so far !!

Yes, Debs, my friend is curious about the brother David Kidwell ... she has a record (dont know where from) that William Kidwell's marriage was witnessed by David X ... who witnessed the marriage ... she wanted to know if he too was a Kidwell, so any info about him or his family (or I suppose William) would be of use to her.

Thanks ... (have finished the jam ... isn't it annoying how a bucket full of plums or damsons ends up as only half a dozen pots of jam !)

well , I am still trying to find a connection ...

This is going back quite far ... but I thought I would try and work forward from it  and hopefully find the connection ...so far i have not succeeded... but thought I should lay it out , just in case you or someother great RCer can help

Bebs ... true ... much more fun than housework !  I've made the jam, and have to clean the house now ... my housemate is returning in four hours and the place is a tip ... and the dog is moulting BIG time !


Can I just check with you that those records you found are for 1710 onwards ... the William who married a Mary that we know is a definite record, is for 26 March 1783, so those kids couldnt be theirs before their parents were probably even born ! 

So I assume this is another generation (or even two) backwards ... are you with me ?

Any info on the Pugsley marriage might be useful, so stick that on too please !


I MUST leave this for a bit, and get the vacuum out ... I wonder if I could use it on the dog ??
