Yes ...what I was trying to do with those IGI records ..1710 onward ...was to try and work forward to find a link somewhere between David and William , both b c 1760's...we have David being 80 in 1841 and William marrying in 1783, hopefully of age.

Maybe William and David were cousins ... it's all rather discombobulating...

I will post Pugsley info soonish ... gotta get to the store ...will be back ...never fear

Great stuff, Steve ... as you can see we are struggling a bit with David , the thatcher ...Only one David Kidwell on IGI and he is born circa 1835...

Also would you be able to look up the Records relating to the document re: the Chichester property  Deeds ...... it certainly looks interesting

Yes, I live in Barnstaple, the home of the NDRO, but originals are often held in Exeter, so I'm sure what I can find

Hi Debs & Lydart,

Just back from a quick recce at NDRO - a bit rushed today but here goes:
Shirwell PR (Transcription)
The IGI extracts you list all seem to be correct except the parents are Richard & Mary Kedwell (not William)
Then:
Jan 6 1733 John base s Agnes Kedwell
Dec 18 1747 Richard s William & Joan Kedwell
Mar 12 1748 Elizabeth d William & Joan Kidwell
(also noticed:
Jan ? 1766 Mary d John & Grace Wood)
Then nothing. I checked surrounding Parishes (including Barnstaple & there were scattered pockets of Kidwells, especially in Pilton, but no David or Williams)

But then I tried Loxhore:
Feb 9 1752 Margaret d William & Joan Kidwell
Jan 6 1755 William s William & Joan Kidwell
Jan ? 1758 David s William & Joan Kidwell
Nov 14 1759 Ann base d Ann Kidwell
(Also:
Jan 19 1777 John s Anthony & Mary Pugsley)

This is seemingly the same Kidwell family (sometimes Kedwell) & William senior I take to be the William born 1718 - interesting that he calls his eldest son Richard (after his father?)

I'm sorry I didn't have time to look further, or investigate the Chichester family document - I'll try when I have more time. I don't know why I didn't try Loxhore first - its the nearest parish to Shirwell, the village less than 2 miles away, but to be honest I've never seen a church there, so wasn't aware it was a separate parish!

How Fabulous ...you found David wooohoooo ...just checked IGI and David is not on it although Elizabeth (1747) and Richard (1748), children if william and Joan Kedwell are ! Maybe Loxhore parish reg. not transcribed yet!

also my mistake re: WILLIAM Kedwell ... I rechecked ..and it is RICHARD .... major typing error on my part ... arrggghhhhh
