Hi Tattyhead. As I can't send full details I will try bits and pieces here as we go along. Catherine Carrott appears to be your William's sister. She was born in December 1847 although many files show her as being born in 1848. She married John Hill in Burton on Trent and had several children, including my grandmother Ellen (1872). All children were born in Stoke on Trent. When John Hill died she later remarried Henry Middleton - middle class prosperous - Catherine died in 1933 in Stoke. I believe I have some details on William somewhere but will search for that in case you have any specific questions.  Best wishes form England. Dougal
