I don't think there is a lot of call for rifles in Yorkshire !

Hi Jenn,
I am betting on NSW, I have ancestors in Yorkshire and NSW, and from all my various photos and searches, it is highly likely Australia.
Especially the style of hat.

Thanks for  the re-pro  Tracy

I  think  that  I  may have erred  here as I  now  think  I  could  have posted  this particular photo some time ago.  The chin  are  is hard to define  is it a beard  if so  a different colour  or a  very very long face  and  if  that  is  the case  none  of  the family  have  it!!!

Thanks Meg   perhaps he was out shooting rabbits  they  lived in Chatswood  at  the turn of  the 19th century  which  would have still  had an awfull lot of neighbouring bush.

regards Jenn

OH thinks the rifle is a carbine-length caplock, possibly a Springfield Trapdoor, produced from 1865.

Jenn,
this is where I think the chin line finishes, a slight shadow suggests it (to me  ;D).
Still working on the whole pic
