I have access to a few but not the 1841 & 1851 records for Stirlingshire/Lanarkshire/Dunbartonshire, which at this stage seem the most likely options - guess I will need to put this in the too difficult pile for now!

Not difficult - just time consuming - it shouldn't be all that difficult  :-\

I've found them in 1841 so it's only 1851 that you need to search for. The LDS Centres should have the films.
