What was a "Good Conduct Ring"?
« on: Monday 24 September 07 15:49 BST (UK) »
My gtx3 grandfather Charles Heaven received 4 'good conduct rings' throughout his 21 year career, from 1835 until 1856. Why was it called a 'ring', as in the pension papers it goes on to call them 'good conduct badges'. What were they? And what sort of 'good conduct' was involved? Any ideas?  ???

Thanks

Rich  :D

Thanks, Trevor

Very interesting! At least I know what they would've looked like now. I wonder why they were called 'rings' though. I assume they 'ringed' the top of the cuff, and hence the name.

Thanks once again.

Rich  :)
