I don't think it is, but I don't know who it is...just came across it.

Cheers,

Yes, I think so too. Very similar photos, though, and aren't they both lovely young men.

Yes, and also my young man's teeth are just about perfect, almost looks like he's had orthodontic braces, the chances for which approach zero ;D Most unusual.

gee, have I been asleep or something.

no, not him, that I am absolutely sure.
Seen lots of pics of him in various poses of his youth and in older life.
He had a brother but he was totally different to look at and didn't join the Navy.

sorry to disappoint, and thankyou for thinking of me.

Might have been one of his Navy mates in WW2.  ;)
I managed to get him to tell me in detail about his time in the Navy, he was a mechanic.

Loved the Yanks as they supplied them with some good 'Tucker'  and grog ;D

cheers

me again!

just spoken to FIL, here for tea,
Gave me a run down on the uniform which may help put your fellow into a catagory.
Wish I had checked this earlier.

Ok Your fellow is in what is known as a'dress uniform', it is not army issue.
Dress uniforms had gold buttons and was double breasted, used for going ashore.
You paid for your dress uniform out of your own money.

The Navy issue, as in my pic, is single breasted and black buttons.

Both men have the insignia of a Petty Officer badge on their shoulder (the shoulder showing)
The shoulder that you cannot see has the insignia that shows rank/position.

For both gents, your fellow and mine, the insignias on hat and sleeve, are .... red, Apparently because it being war time, didn't stand out as much  ???

Both photos would have been taken privately, not by the Navy.

Hope this helps.

Margaret

I thought the US navy was dry.

Anyway, thanks for that, Meg. Just one more thing, I assume it's a Royal Navy uniform and not Canadian?

Gee, if my mother'd married him instead of my father I might have had those teeth...hmmmm.... ;D ;D ;D

Very nice colour, Carolyn, thanks very much!
