My family on the IOM
« on: Wednesday 26 September 07 19:51 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

My GGG Grandad Robert Redhead came from Abory to Cumbria, then Cumberland in about 1850.I have found Redheads on the IOM back to 1790s on the Isle on IGI.

Prior to that there are none. Did people come to the Isle for work at that time from somewhere else?

Thanks, Caz x

jOBS !
re redheads try posting a query on http://www.isle-of-man.com/cgi-bin/interests/genealogy/bulletin/index.pl?noframes as one of the regulars claims to have 'done' all the Redheads which Manx family would appear to have originated with a robert Redhead & his children (Robt + Isaac (issac is presumeably the one who joined Major Taubman's company in 1794 described as 5ft 4in fair of complexion + hair , grey eyes and a labourer from Middlesex))

Thanks Frances,
Is that info army records? How fascinating,
I noticed there were no Redheads on the Isle prior to 1790s. Is it Peter Redhead you mean? If so I have written to him.
