Think that most peple came over to cumbria from isle of man for the work that was going in the mines.At least that is what mine did after moving here to cleator they then moved down to barrow.

I have Quayles in my tree from IOM.  Margaret Quayle married Richard Lawson over there, and moved here to Whitehaven (Hensingham) where Richard and sons worked as miners in one of the many mines around here.

I don't know much about my IOM ancestors, and have never been there.
