just looking on the fullBMD for a Dorothy Lesley (Lesley as the surname) b. 1897 - 1901 only brings up the one in St Olave also note she was registerd in Q1 which would cover February.

looking for a Dorothy L b. 1897 - 1901 gives us 14 options, with only one being born in 1899.

Dorothy L C Russell-Williams Q4 1899 Guildford

note she was registered in Q4 by law births should be registered within 42 days wuth an extension of upto 6 months accompanined by a a financial penalty.

finally if they don't prove to be yours then she could have been registered under male or female but again we cannot serahc these unless we know her maiden name.

i am favouring the 1897 birth, it was not uncommon for detah ages to be incorrect. but yes you would need to find the marriage ref and utilmatley the marriage cert. to confirm her fathers name,
i don't have access to the census other than 1881, if someone could find her on 1901 then you could see if the fathers match.

unfortunatley 1920-1984 you have to search the BMD qtr by qtr

Hi

Nomie - another few  questions - when and where was your mothers marriage?   and what was her father Thomas William Bells occupation on the certificate, who were the witnesses?  - we are trying on this one honest  any further info you can give us such as wether your mother had siblings would possibly help.
